Sacramento State

Silva Valley is offering you the opportunity to participate in Academic Talent Search (ATS) at Sacramento State. The ATS program gives students the opportunity to study in fields like art, business, computer science, engineering, law, and science (as well as other subjects not readily available to students in this age group). Last year, some of our most popular classes included Acting: All the World’s a Stage, Algebra 1, LEGO Robotics, Neuropsychology, and Video Game Development.

To be eligible for ATS, all you need to do is be a current 4th and 5th grade student (grade level as of January 1, 2018) and take the ATS Qualifying Exam. Taking the test automatically qualifies you for ATS. The test takes a little over an hour and assesses your academic abilities. Students in 4th and 5th grades take the “intermediate” level exam.  Scores do NOT affect your school grades. Taking the test does not mean you have to attend ATS, but it gives you the option to attend these fun and unique classes at Sac State this summer.

Silva Valley's ATS test will be offered February 2nd, during school hours. To sign up, download the application and return it to the office at least one week prior to the testing date. On the day of the test, bring the $15 processing fee with you (fees should not be submitted before the exam). This fee covers the scoring of your exam and the mailing of your test results directly to your home. If you cannot afford the test processing fee, ask your School Representative about a Testing Fee Waiver.

Hands4Hope Toiletries Drive Challenge
February 5 - February 16

Silva Valley Elementary School will be partnering with
Hands4Hope – Youth Making A Difference for their annual Toiletries
Drive Challenge, February 5 - February 16. Three local elementary
schools will be competing for the Toiletries Drive Traveling Trophy,
awarded to the school that collects the most toiletries during the
two-week drive. Silva Valley won the trophy in 2017.
Let’s keep the trophy at Silva Valley!

Toiletries, like food, quickly get used up and are always in demand by
both the homeless and those struggling to make ends meet . Please
help us make a difference in the lives of others by sending toilet
paper, feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable
razors, hand sanitizer, deodorant, travel size shampoo, conditioner,
body soap, and chapstick to school with your children during these
two weeks.

Items can be deposited in the Hands4Hope blue collection barrels
located in the front of the school. The collected items will be sorted
and distributed to individuals and families in need in El Dorado and
Sacramento Counties, as well as deployed soldiers.

For more information on Hands4Hope and how to get involved please

Student Council is selling Candy Grams for Valentine’s Day.

We will be selling candy grams after school during the week of January 29th to February 2nd.  We will be selling them on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:15 - 2:50. Students can purchase their candy grams and fill them out on the spot or they can return them to the office no later than February 5th.  The candy grams have room to allow students to add a little message to their friends or classmates.  They will also include a little “non-food” treat.  They will be delivered to your classrooms on Valentine’s Day.

This year, Student Council tried to make it easy on families by offering class sets of Valentines.  You have the option of purchasing 1 for $1.00, 25 for $20.00 or 35 for $25.00.  By purchasing from Student Council, you are helping to place money back into the school for items such as playground equipment and benches.  Thank you for participating.
